Principle 05
Healing is integration.
We are not healed by removing parts of ourselves, but by ending the war between them.
Popular culture imagines healing as deletion: erase the trauma, silence the inner critic, kill the ego. But the psyche does not work by subtraction. Every part — the critic, the child, the protector, the cynic — formed for a reason and carries something needed.
Real healing is re-association: parts that were split off through pain are brought back into relationship with the whole. The memory remains but stops running the show. The sensitivity remains but becomes perception rather than wound. Wholeness, not perfection, is the goal — and wholeness includes scars.
In practice
- Replace 'how do I get rid of this?' with 'what does this part need?'
- Honour the original purpose of a defence before asking it to relax.
- Measure progress by inner cooperation, not by the absence of difficulty.
Which part of me is still waiting to be welcomed home?
