Zen Philosophy

Zen emphasises direct experience over conceptual clutter — sitting, attention, and a mind willing to meet this moment without the armour of commentary. Its humour and severity both serve the same end: intimacy with reality.

Key ideas

  • Zazen — sitting as the primary laboratory of mind
  • Beginner's mind — freshness against the tyranny of expertise
  • Koan and paradox as solvents for dualistic grasping
  • Ordinary mind and everyday activity as the field of awakening

Why it matters here

Zen trains the muscle Viewpoint keeps naming: contact with what is. For embodiment and Work Body, it offers a practice culture that distrusts spiritual performance and returns you to breath, posture, and now.

How we hold it

We borrow Zen's clarity and discipline without claiming monastic authority. Practice is encouraged; exoticism and spiritual competition are not. If sitting destabilises, guidance and grounding come first.
